Five albums deep in the rap game, Young Jeezy’s act is skating on thin ice. His once consistent, fiery motivational raps are losing the impact they once left. Jeezy is a voice for the streets, first and foremost, and his music has consistently represented that. No record featured on Seen It All embraces what the Atlanta, Georgia rapper is about more than lead single, “Me OK”. Drumma Boy and Jeezy have grown as automatic as a Michael Jordan game winner. The street atmosphere of “Me OK” is no different as he touches on his checkered past before the music as well confirmed label woes as an established musician. “Win Is a Win” and “Holy Ghost” are also among the few street bangers that observe the risk and reward of the hustle, capturing the gritty environment he once glorified then left behind.
On the flipside, the lethargic chorus on “Enough” rings hollow in an attempt to motivate the masses, despite a strong lyrical showing from the Snowman. Jeezy’s choice of sampled laden beats is also well represented on Seen It All. He waxes poetic on the finer things in life alongside The Game and foe-turned-ally Ricky Rawse on “Beautiful”, highlighted by a polished Cortex sample. Nine years into his career, Seen It All – The Autobiography consists of little more than retreaded ground from the Atlanta based trap star.
Where the duo found surprise success with the platinum certified “Soul Survivor”, the hunger displayed on the former does not exist anymore as Akon’s crooning falls flat (“Been Getting Money”). Success changes people; for the good or bad is debatable. He also goes bar for bar with former cocaine dealer and regular collaborator Jay-Z for the album’s autobiographical title track over a Wild West themed backdrop that lacks the magnetism of their previous outings. With Young Jeezy, listeners are well aware of what to expect, but his latest outing is whelming of an under variety. His well has seemingly run dry and his act has run into a winter that even the famed Snowman cannot best.
