History

Weight in Words is ultimately the brainchild of myself – Christopher Lamb – and Rakeem Johnson.  For years (and sadly that’s not hyperbole) we teased the idea of forming a music website but between his prolific web journeys and my equally prolific film journeys we were a pair of dreamers without a base to build off of.  Years down the line, with college behind us and our ridiculously bright futures before us, we can finally sit down and start putting our natural-born talents to use and combine our mutual loves of music, writing and a third, more salacious thing to work here.

Upon further thought, that third thing might be left out of the equation entirely.  Don’t ask us about it.

While the original idea for this site is more so mine, the name is purely inspired by Mr. Johnson and his reading of an article in The Root called “How I Imagine Trayvon Martin” by Stephen A. Crockett, Jr.  More specifically, this quote:

Before I became this guy, a writer of marginal success who believes in the weight of words, I used to be Trayvon Martin.

And with the time to finally write, the passion to bring text to life, bright futures and box sets of Game of Thrones, we can properly pledge to bring you a new set of perspectives for your viewing, and technically listening, pleasures.
